Annual Egg Drop Challenge for Elementary & Middle Schools
The NDP Science National Honor Society students organize an Egg Drop Challenge each year that is a STEAM themed event designed to encourage young girls to develop and/or expand an interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) topics and courses. The contest takes place on the last Saturday in January each year and is open to teams of girls representing area Catholic, private, and public elementary and middle schools. The competition includes two divisions: Division I for girls in 4th and/or 5th grades, competing from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., and Division II for 7th and/or 8th grade girls, competing from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Teams are composed of 3 or 4 girls and schools may enter up to three teams in each division.
The specifics of the competition involve teams designing and constructing and entry that will protect one egg (Division I) or two eggs (Division II) when dropped from a standard height of approximately 4 meters. An on-site surprise engineering challenge will also be included. Division I winners will receive a technology prize and Division II winners receive a 4 year $1000 tuition Scholarship to attend Notre Dame Prep as a 9th grader upon acceptance and a $100 iTunes gift card.
Interested parents or teachers may initiate the formation of a team representing their daughter’s school! To request a copy of the specific rules and a team entry form contact Mr. Tom Peri, the Science National Honor Society moderator at firstname.lastname@example.org at your convenience.
