SCHOOL HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1873, Notre Dame Preparatory School is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, owned and operated by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

LOCATION

Towson, Maryland, on Hampton Lane between Providence and Dulaney Valley Roads; NDP moved from North Charles Street to its 60-acre Towson campus in 1960.

Sister Patricia McCarron, SSND, headmistress; Laurie Jones, principal. NDP is governed by a 25-member board of trustees. Chairperson is Sister Patricia McLaughlin, SSND, executive director of the Caroline Center.

CURRICULUM

College preparatory, including more than 160 courses (25 Advanced Placement) offered in grades 9-12. Religion is required for all grades. Unusual offerings: Japanese, swimming, community service

ATHLETIC PROGRAM

Approximately half of all NDP students participate in interscholastic sports; 34 teams compete in 15 different interscholastic sports; recent championships in badminton, basketball, cross country, lacrosse and volleyball; college athletic scholarship offers made to 25 students in last three years.

Three classroom wings, including a new performing arts center with rehearsal and performance space; state-of-the-art Sports and Fitness Center which houses an NCAA-regulation size basketball court, training room, and fitenss room; library with 31,000 volumes; state-of-the-art language center; five newly renovated science labs; three computer labs; three regulation-size athletic fields; one practice field, six tennis courts; swimming pool; field house; softball diamond
