Guidance Timeline
IN THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR, STUDENTS:
- Meet with their guidance counselor in small group settings throughout the year
- Explore test-taking techniques and study skills
- Familiarize themselves with Notre Dame's phasing system and course offerings
- Select extra-curricular activities, which relate to their interest and abilities
- Discuss good decision making as pertaining to ongoing events of the year (i.e. dances, Gym Meet, etc.)
- Create a four-year academic plan
IN THEIR SOPHOMORE YEAR, STUDENTS:
- Take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) in October
- Sophomores participate in career testing which provides results relating to possible college and career choices.
IN THEIR JUNIOR YEAR, STUDENTS:
- Are invited to attend two college fairs, one at Calvert Hall College in the fall, and one sponsored by the area independent schools in the spring.
- Take the PSAT/NMSQT at school
- Register for the SAT in the winter and various College Board subject tests in the spring.
- Meet with counselors each week during the second semester in small group settings to discuss the college search
- Parents attend a spring information session on school selection, college visits and the interview and application process.
- Parents receive a guidebook on the college search process.
Following this meeting, parents are invited to schedule individual appointments with the college counselors to discuss appropriate college choices based on the students' interest and abilities.
IN THEIR SENIOR YEAR, STUDENTS:
- Are invited to attend the fall college fair at Calvert Hall College
- Meet frequently with college counselor individually and in small groups
- Receive a guidebook covering pertinent topics and help in application preparation
- Have the opportunity to meet with representatives from more than 100 colleges who visit the Prep each year throughout the first semester
- Receive two excused absences for college visits
- Receive weekly updates on scholarships and open house programs in homerooms and on the NDP website
- Parents attend a financial aid forum.
