Overview

The counselors at Notre Dame Preparatory School work with all students individually, in small groups and in classroom settings to help them achieve academic, personal, college and career goals. Counselors also are available to meet with parents and school staff whenever necessary.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM

The middle school guidance counselor meets with the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in a classroom setting each week. The curriculum includes developmentally appropriate discussion topics such as adjustment to middle school, issues of early adolescence and general concerns.

UPPER LEVEL PROGRAM

Since the NDP program is designed to be college preparatory, efforts to guide the Notre Dame student and her family in preparing for the college selection and application process are a continuing focus during all four years.

COLLEGE COUNSELING

NDP's college counselors are members of the National Association of College Admission Counselors and the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS). To enhance the relationship between Notre Dame and colleges across the country, they frequently attend seminars, workshops and conferences. In addition, they meet regularly with counselors from area independent schools sharing information regarding trends in college admission.

COUNSELING CENTER RESOURCES

In September 2006, NDP's Guidance Office began using a college planning software program which more than 25,000 educators in 42 countries utilize.  WorkspaceK12 is a premier web-based planning and advising system for counselors, teachers and students.  The student and family component, Family Connection, will be implemented beginning with the 2007-2008 school year.  Other resources for students include a complete library of current books, catalogs, and videotapes and CDs of a number of colleges.
