Overview
Technology at Notre Dame Prep centers on the belief that sensible technology—that is technology that advances learning goals—can enhance teaching, motivate learning, and prepare students to meet the technological demands of college and the 21st-century workplace. With the integration of technology in the Notre Dame Prep curriculum, students receive the most complete and stellar education available today.
In 2006, the NDP Upper School became a fully implemented wireless laptop learning environment. To that end, all incoming grade nine students are required to have laptops, purchased usually through the NDP program, and to attend a summer laptop camp in preparation. Laptop specifications will be provided to incoming students and their families by freshman registration.
Technology Resources and Staff
The entire NDP campus is configured as a wireless laptop environment. Teachers use laptop computers in their instruction and day-to-day communication. Technology is integrated into regular classroom instruction, and there are elective classes addressing topics such as database management, web design, and programming. For more specialized studies, there are computer labs dedicated to language study, writing and publications, graphic design and architectural drawing. Desktop computers in the library provide access to the library databases on campus, and students are able to use school resources at home via the Internet.
Five staff members service NDP’s technology program, including a curriculum technologist who works directly with faculty, a technology director, a network administrator, a PC/laptop specialist and a college intern. The Student Technology Advisers (STArs) staff the NDP Technology Help Desk and provide technical support to students, faculty, and parents.
