Program Description

The Art Department’s goal is to provide the stimulation, encouragement and instruction to enhance the development of the creative potential of each individual.  By offering courses in various media, Notre Dame gives each student the opportunity to have a range of art experiences and to pursue continued study of art in consecutive years.  Aside from the development of visual and applied skills of the studio experience, the student studies art history, art criticism and aesthetics through museum visits, readings, slides, dvd’s, videos, the internet, and class discussions.  The Art Department feels that by teaching to all sides of the individual—the intellectual, the spiritual and the aesthetic—the Notre Dame student will become a more fully developed thinking person.
