The month of May is especially significant to the Notre Dame Prep community. It is the month dedicated to the Blessed Mother, Notre Dame. In addition, on May 9 we celebrate the feast day of Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger, the foundress of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND). Blessed Theresa showed incredible resilience, perseverance, and fortitude as she founded an order of sisters dedicated to educating poor women and children. She then organized legions of young religious to travel into unknown lands to set up schools for such populations. In an unexpected way, the work of nearly two centuries ago resembles the work of today. NDP’s SSND-inspired educators are braving similarly unknown territory, as these past weeks have seen our school transition to a virtual learning environment because of the pandemic. Amidst these unprecedented and uncertain times, our dedicated teachers and staff, as well as our hard-working students, have shown the same resilience, perseverance, and fortitude as Blessed Theresa. She is certainly guiding us—and smiling upon is—in spirit!
