Celebrating SSND Foundation Day 2023

On Tuesday, October 24th, students, faculty, and staff came together for Foundation Day marking the 190th anniversary of the founding of Notre Dame Preparatory School’s sponsoring religious community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND). The gathering was especially meaningful for us this year as NDP celebrates its own special milestone: 150 years of educating young women as first envisioned by SSND Foundress, Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger.

Joining the NDP school community were SSND guests from the Baltimore area. During a celebration liturgy, a special video was shown of students visiting area cemeteries to place white roses on the graves of those deceased Sisters who served at Notre Dame Prep in their lifetime. Following the mass, the community bore witness to the dedication and blessing of a new display, the SSND Tribute Wall. Located in the main foyer of the school, the wall lists the names of each School Sister of Notre Dame who served at NDP, either on the original Charles Street campus or in Towson. Both the placing of the roses and the special tribute wall honor all SSND who are not only part of the history of Notre Dame Prep but also the great legacy of the order.
