Annette March-Grier '78
Annette March-Grier, Class of 1978, the 2015 Mother Caroline Friess Service Award recipient, designed to recognize an alumna who demonstrates the SSND mission through exemplary acts of service. For more than 30 years, Ms. March-Grier has been a beacon of hope and healing to those who have experienced great loss. She is the founder and president of Roberta’s House, which provides free programs and services to low income children and teens who have experienced the death of a loved one, many of whom victims of homicide.
Ms. March-Grier has dedicated her life to uplifting individuals experiencing grief, while also facing grief head on as an issue of social justice. She saw how violence wove grief into the fabric of Baltimore and decided that she had a calling to initiate meaningful change. Now, she is a woman transforming urban neighborhoods by equipping children and families with the coping skills they need to be resilient. The Notre Dame Prep community is so proud to recognize this outstanding alumna, and we are not alone in our admiration. In 2014, she was the recipient of CNN Top Ten Hero award, which recognizes “everyday people doing remarkable things to make the world a better place.”
“I have been given the gift of setting people free,” explained Ms. March-Grier. “That is my reward and is greater than any amount of money to be had.”
