On a Mission to Give Back

The Mezu International Foundation provides services in healthcare, agriculture, economic development, and education to communities both in Baltimore and in Southeastern Nigeria. Often, the foundation partners with non-profits such as VSP Vision Care, Alcon, Catholic Charities, and local churches.

This year, for the Mezu Foundation's Annual Give Back Christmas mission, BiancaRose included her Notre Dame Prep classmates in the effort. Presenting to all eighth-grade art classes, she shared her experiences volunteering at the Ancilla Orphanage in Nigeria and invited the students to create Christmas cards and drawings for the youngsters there.

“The other girls were amazed that she was part of something so important,” said Mrs. Christian Leitch, art teacher who describes BiancaRose as mature, compassionate, and empathetic. “She is an unassuming hero.”

Each NDP student was assigned an individual child, for whom she crafted a personalized Christmas message. BiancaRose then hand-delivered the greetings, along with food, toys, clothes, medicines, and school supplies, when she and her family traveled to the Imo State, Nigeria, during the Christmas break.

“The Anchilla children were ecstatic and quite happy to receive the beautiful cards and drawings made with love from the 8th Graders at Notre Dame Prep,” reported, Dr. Kelechi Mezu-Nnabue, BiancaRose's mother.

Through her 15 local and international mission trips, BiancaRose has experienced first-hand the transformative power of service in both her life and in the lives of others. As she shared with her classmates, “We can make a difference in someone’s life by little acts of kindness, sharing what we have, and praying for them.  We always receive more joy than we come to give.”
