For more than a decade, Lisa and Bill Stromberg have been among Notre Dame Preparatory School’s most steadfast partners. They have brought to Hampton Lane the same wisdom, generosity, and faith that have strengthened institutions across the Baltimore region.
Lisa’s leadership has shaped some of the most important moments in NDP’s recent history. As chair of the Head of School Search Committee, she guided the school through the careful, prayerful work of finding its next leader. She also helped ensure a seamless transition from Sister Patricia McCarron, SSND, to Dr. Angela Allen. She has served NDP as chair of the Board’s Advancement Committee and as a member of its Governance Committee, lending her insight to the long-term strength of the school.
The Strombergs’ connection to NDP began when they were parents. Their daughter, Grace, graduated in 2015. That connection grew into a lasting investment in the students who have followed her. In 2012, Lisa and Bill established the Bill and Lisa Stromberg Family Scholarship Fund to support Catholic education and make an NDP education possible for deserving young women. They have supported the fund faithfully ever since and are regular guests at NDP’s annual Scholarship Breakfast, where Lisa spoke in 2014.
When NDP launched Limitless: Redefining Possibilities, Unleashing Potential, the largest capital campaign in the school’s history, Lisa and Bill were among three families who renewed their commitment to provide a 1:1 challenge match, helping to build the Jane Kroh Satterfield Innovation Wing and expand scholarship support. They answered the call again with a leadership gift to the Common Ground Campaign, helping to create the new Huffman Commons.
Lisa’s belief in the transformational power of education runs through her life. She is a 1983 graduate of Goucher College and earned her master’s degree in education from Loyola University Maryland. She taught French and Spanish to middle and high school students in public and private schools in Maryland and New Hampshire. Since then she has devoted much of her time to education-focused volunteer leadership.
At the School of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, where the Stromberg children attended school, Lisa served on the School Board and on the search committee for a new principal. She has also served on the boards of Mother Seton Academy and Notre Dame Prep. Goucher elected her to its Board of Trustees in 2016, and she served as board chair from 2021 to 2024. At Goucher she has also chaired the Nominating and Governance Committee and the Presidential Inauguration Committee. She has served on the Presidential Search Committee and on the Alumnae/i Association’s Nominating and Reunion Committees, and she has been a Class Fund Manager. She continues to serve as a Goucher trustee today.
Bill is a Towson native and a graduate of Loyola Blakefield. At Johns Hopkins University he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematical sciences in 1982 and set long-standing records in football and baseball. He went on to earn his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. He spent more than three decades at T. Rowe Price, retiring as president and chief executive officer in 2021, and later served as non-executive chair of its board. He serves on the Johns Hopkins University Board of Trustees and chairs the Whiting School of Engineering Advisory Board.
Together, the Strombergs have made education, human services, the environment, and the Catholic Church the focus of their philanthropy. Their support for education reaches from grade school through graduate study at institutions including Goucher College, Catholic Community Foundation, Johns Hopkins University, and Mother Seton Academy.
In recognition of their service, Lisa and Bill have received Catholic Charities’ Distinguished Service Award and the Order of St. Gregory the Great. As Bill has put it, education is one of the greatest gifts a person can receive, because it opens the door to a self-sufficient life.
Notre Dame Prep is deeply grateful that Lisa and Bill have brought their remarkable talents and generous hearts to Hampton Lane. It is with great joy that we present them with the Hampton Award.
