NDP Welcomes UN Representative Sister Joan Pikiell; Students Prepare for Commission on the Status of Women
Notre Dame Prep was honored to welcome Sister Joan Pikiell, SSND, to campus on January 20 for a special meeting with the school’s student delegation to the United Nations.
Sister Joan, who serves as the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Representative to the UN, visited to speak with the four students selected to attend the upcoming UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) conference this March. The selected delegates include Margaret R. ’26, Abigail K. ’27, Carolyn K. ’28, and Kim S. J. ’28.
During the visit, Sister Joan offered insights into the workings of the United Nations and discussed the significant role the students will play as youth delegates. The meeting concluded with a special ceremony in which Sister Joan presented each student with her official UN lapel pin, recognizing their selection and marking the beginning of this prestigious opportunity.
The CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. Attendance at CSW70 offers these students a unique opportunity to witness global policy-making in action and engage with issues critical to women worldwide.
