An exciting energy filled the air along Hampton Lane on Sunday, September 28, as Notre Dame Preparatory School hosted its 28th Annual Blazer Dash 5K Memorial Scholarship Run and One-Mile Walk. The beloved event, a cornerstone of the NDP community, brought together students, faculty, staff, alumnae, families, and friends for a morning of remembrance, fitness, and fun, while raising crucial funds for the school's memorial scholarships.
The Blazer Dash has always been a special occasion to honor the memory of cherished members of the NDP community who have left us too soon. The day started with an opening ceremony to recognize our memorial scholarship families who were in attendance—McCaffrey, Eskridge, Doyle, Brashears, Varnado, Benson/Woolf, and Alvey—their presence a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of those they represent.
Following the opening ceremony, event sponsor Alloy Personal Training led an energetic warm-up before more than 800 runners and walkers took off. This year's event introduced some exciting new additions that catered to all ages including the inaugural Tiny Trotters Race, sponsored by author and Alumnae Association Board member Sheri Miller ’82, with children ages 2–7 beaming as they dashed along the 50-yard course toward the finish line.
Following the races, families enjoyed the Finish Line Festival, which included live music from local children's band Modern Tone, concessions from Kona Ice and Travelin' Tom’s Coffee, lawn games, and various vendors including a balloon artist, face painters, and the NDP Alumnae Association's "Spin & Win" table. The Baltimore Museum of Art was also on hand to host a special origami kids' craft in honor and remembrance of Aileen McCaffrey '02, who had a special love for origami.
The Blazer Dash is more than just a race; it's a celebration of the lives and legacies that have shaped Notre Dame Prep. The overwhelming success of this year's event demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Notre Dame Prep community to honoring the past and investing in the future.
We invite you to visit the official race website to view race results, photos from the event, and a full list of event sponsors, without whom this event simply could not happen.
