Learning Resource Center Opens

When students, faculty, and staff return to campus later this month, they will be met with some notable changes. There will be a shiny new gym floor in the Sports & Fitness Center complete with the Blazer logo, and freshly scrubbed classrooms ready for in-person learning. In addition, the academic leadership and facilities teams are making the most of the relative quiet of summer to create an even more nurturing environment for learning. Located where the school's East Wing and Innovation Wing intersect, this space is the home of NDP’s new Batza-Simon Learning Resource Center. The center will house the Susie Williams Simon ’71 Reading Program, which was established two years ago, two offices and two meeting spaces, including an area for students seeking assistance in mathematics.

Created to be warm and welcoming, the center is designed to be "a place where students feel confident and comfortable seeking out the extra help they may need,” explains Craig Scheiner, project manager.

Carol Yoos, NDP reading specialist, is looking forward to meeting students in the new space. “Current and former students had a say in how this center is designed. We asked them what they needed and designed it accordingly.  The space is filled with light and designed for different types of learners. There will be an area with rocking chairs and low tables, a spot with study carrels for independent quiet work, and modular furniture that can be moved to create group workspace.”

The Learning Resource Center is made possible through the generosity of several donors. Their gifts are transformative to the education of our students.
