Meet NDP’s New Mission Integration Coordinator: Sister Kathy Jager, SSND
Why did you choose to become an SSND?
Throughout high school and my early college years, becoming a sister was not really uppermost on my radar screen. Becoming a teacher was what I knew, in my heart, I was called to be. However, during my junior year in college, that call began to deepen. When I look back, I think "Who did I want to be?" and "How did I want to live that out?" became those deeper questions for me. Being a teacher became part of a "bigger picture" so to speak. I felt that God was calling me to religious life and, in particular, to the School Sisters of Notre Dame. I wanted to be for others what the SSND had been for me: helping me discover my gifts, talents, and passion; encouraging me to believe in myself; and using what God gave me to serve others. After 47 years, I would STILL make the same decision to be an SSND!
What is the one thing you hope our students take away from their time here at NDP?
I hope that our students come to believe in the person that God has made them and called them to be, to feel empowered to use their gifts and talents to make a difference in this world that so needs young people like them today.
What is your favorite quote from Blessed Mother Theresa of Gerhardinger of Jesus, SSND Foundress?
“With the Lord WHAT we do is less important than HOW we do it.”
