Former area collegiate athlete Samantha Murray will join Notre Dame Preparatory School (NDP) as Director of Athletics, beginning July 2026. Murray comes to NDP from St. Paul’s School for Girls (SPSG), where she has served as Assistant Athletics Director for five years. She replaces Steve Powers, who joined NDP as Director of Athletics in 2022 and plans to retire in June.
“This is an exciting time for Blazers Athletics, and Ms. Murray promises to advance athletics as an essential part of a girls’ school education—one that fosters resilience, teamwork, confidence, and leadership in ways that are deeply aligned with our mission,” said Angela Allen, Ed.D., Head of School. “The Notre Dame community is enthusiastic about welcoming Ms. Murray, and we look forward to the energy, dedication, and vision she will bring to this new chapter of Blazers Athletics.”
“I am excited to be joining such a distinguished program, one that excels both athletically and academically,” said Murray. “I look forward to partnering with this community to continue to grow the tradition of excellence that is NDP.”
Murray will lead the school’s comprehensive athletics program, which fields multiple teams in all 15 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM)-sponsored sports, including: badminton, basketball, crew, cross country, field hockey, golf, indoor track, lacrosse, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Approximately 50 percent of NDP high school students participate in at least one interscholastic sport. Most recently, the school has won championship titles in cross country, softball, swimming, and track and field. In the middle school, nearly all students participate in one of the 10 interscholastic sports offered.
A former collegiate basketball player, Murray has nearly 15 years of experience in collegiate and independent school athletics, along with a clear passion for the role sports play in the lives of young women. At SPSG, she played a pivotal role in the Gators Lead program, partnering closely with students to build confident leaders through character education, community service, and athletic teamwork. She also enhanced SPSG’s athletics communications, growing the school’s sports social media presence by an impressive 418 percent.
Before her tenure at SPSG, Murray served in the Athletics Department at Stevenson University, where she received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. During her six years as Assistant Athletics Communications Director and an additional two years as Assistant Director of Compliance, she led critical communications and compliance functions with precision and professionalism. Her excellence in sports communications earned national recognition, including the NCAA Division III and D3SIDA Recognition Award, the CoSIDA Fred Stabley, Sr. Writing Contest Award, and the AVCA Grant Burger Media Award.
